It began in engines.
Fitting we’ve become one.

It’s about family. Has always been. First, The Cummins family and now ours. In it for the long haul could very well have been a Cummins tagline and with a 32 year association with those legendary engines, it could very well be ours. Not afraid to commit. No sir. Fresh off the boat from Columbus, Ohio, young Jim Andrews walked into Cummins’ Columbus, Indiana headquarters with no delusions of grandeur. No life map spread out on the hood. Only a strong work-ethic, desire to succeed and a fierce loyalty. While this new Columbus lacked Buckeyes, it made up for it in bucking trends. Invention, Innovation, and investment in people and progress. Cummins was home for Jim. It was simpatico and a home he never left. Why leave a good thing? Instead you invest and you grow personally and financially and grow it all into a multi-state distributorship — distributing fairness, integrity and honesty along with some serious diesel horsepower. Business acumen meeting a delicate human touch, if not a Midas touch.

In the true spirit of Cummins, you keep moving down the road. Keep moving forward because rest is for the tired. New ideas. New opportunities. And while you’re at it, create a legacy. Not just for Jim, Nancy, Charlie and Harrison Andrews, but all present and future partners and companies. Flatrock Partners LLC is first and foremost a family business. A collective dream. And like the Flatrock River, part of a watershed flowing from the Mississippi, with connective tributaries flowing through the midwest, so has the Andrews family history. And now with an Andrews or two now calling Tennessee home, the Flatrock River is certain to find its way there, too. Just takes some initiative, hard work, perseverance and investment. And that human touch.

our philosophy.

Invest. Then invest.
Sounds complicated, we know.

Connection. Collaboration. Cooperation. Consensus. This isn’t the cultivation of “C” words, although that’s another. It is a philosophy. And one that without, a partnership cannot stand. Not in the truest sense of partnership. Flatrock is certainly about growth. About creating avenues for success in business. About creative thinking and creating legacies. But it all has to begin with a partnership. Mutual values and goals. We’ve all got to sit around that campfire and nail the harmonies on “Kumbaya” or else it’s not a fit. We’ll toast a few marshmallows and be on our way. Flatrock has no intension of becoming a global household name. We would simply prefer to be welcomed into the households of our current and future partners. Yes, like a family. To feel like a family. And if that sounds corny, sign us up. After all, our family tree is rooted in small town Midwest ideals. Play nice. Be fair. Relationships over rate of return. Like what we see in the mirror.

The mission is to identify opportunities to invest in strategically smart and emerging companies. Then we become invested. If that means we step back we will. If that means we leave fingerprints we will. But both investment styles come with one non-negotiable mandate — our heart and soul. It’s right there in our operations manifest. And if you believe that’s an intangible we’re sorry but you’re wrong. It impacts any and every bottom line. Love what you do. Believe in the journey. Enjoy the ride. Now that’s a return on investment.

JIM ANDREWS

Jim Andrews has a ponytail. He hasn’t always — it’s new. He may not still have it when you meet to discuss your future with Flatrock, but for right now, stay gold pony boy. Something new wasn’t always Jim’s thing. From 1982-2014, Jim spent with one company — Cummins. Loyalty is important to Jim. What began as production line foreman and concluded with the sale of NPower, a joint venture with Cummins spanning six states, thirteen locations and 650 employees, ignited the growth of a 200 million dollar operation into 500 million. Jim has been in leadership positions from nearly day one at Cummins. Decency and humility make for successful leaders. And generating growth seems to come naturally to a guy with a ponytail.

As a graduate of Ohio State University, Jim saw Columbus, Indiana on the map and thought, yeah, that’ll keep things simple. One less thing to remember. He didn’t realize it was the start of something truly great and a great ride. Also, the start of his family and the start of a long and winding river leading to Flatrock — the start of another soon to be great ride. Sales, marketing, management and operations have been in Jim’s toolbox all along. Tools he now will share with emerging companies needing to draw from his vast bank of experience.

Jim was born and raised in Lima, Ohio in a blue-collar home. His interest and participation in several sports taught him the value of being a good teammate and the importance of coaching. 44 years married to Nancy, his high school sweetheart, they have sons Charlie and Harrison. Minnesota has been home since 1996. Family time in their Twin Cities’ lake home and winters divided between Naples, Florida and Nashville, Tennessee is all part of the plan as they grow Flatrock. His away-from-the-office life is now filled with family, friends, fitness, golf, good food, good wine, good books, Green Bay Packers, Ohio State Buckeyes football, country music and community service. And gazing into a still very bright future.

CHARLIE ANDREWS

Born in Indiana but Minnesota is “home.” Charlie attended Campbell University, in Buies Creek, NC, home of the Fighting Camels and majored in Professional Golf Management receiving a degree in Business. While in the golf management program, a series of internships lead to a club in Cincinnati, where after graduation he took a full-time position. Summer in Cincinnati, south to Tampa for the winter. It was during the second summer in Cincinnati, when passion for the golf business began to dwindle. It was time to move back to Minnesota to pursue other opportunities. Charlie was looking for something where the high score wins.

Working with Cummins NPower, Charlie became a certifed Six Sigma Black Belt. A move into another entity of Cummins, he served as a Master Black Belt supporting Supply Chain and Operations. In that role he became a certifed Master Black Belt, which was the goal when entering that role.

In 2019, Charlie accepted the Director of Operations role at VistaTek — leading the continuous improvement group across various projects to become an efficient production floor, in all aspects from order entry to finished product leaving the facility. Working tirelessly to meet customer demands became their muscle memory. It was a time of continuous improvement. In technical terms, “we just kept getting better and better.”

Charlie and his wife, Maria, have 3 children — Lucy (7), Clare (3), Luke (NB). Stillwater, Minnesota, a northeastern suburb of St. Paul nestled on the St. Croix River, is home. Of course, they’re on a river. He enjoys travel, golf, time outdoors and spending time with friends and you guessed it, family.

HARRISON ANDREWS

Harrison was born in Columbus, Indiana, and grew up in South Florida and Minnesota. He attended the University of Minnesota Duluth and was part of two Division II Football National Championships in 2008 and 2010. The “Bulldogs,” — aptly named for Harrison’s approach to rising up ladders. After his 2011 graduation, he was recruited by Arthrex (orthopedic medical devices) and accepted the territory manager position for Eastern Minnesota and Western Wisconsin. Harrison and his team grew realations and expanded territory to grow the business by over 500%. Growth is a central theme in the Andrews family.

In 2019, Harrison became Chief Commercial Officer at VistaTek. In this role he worked closely with sales, marketing, operations, finance, quality management and logistics. The result? Increased profits. Increased efficiency. In 2020, Harrison was recruited by Stryker Orthopedics to expand business on both Stryker and recently acquired Tornier platforms. He exceeded quota projections by over 1000% and was the leading shoulder athroplasty sales rep in the Midwest.

In true Andrews fashion of identifying opportunities early on, Harrison married his high school sweetheart, Lindsey, and they spend the majority of their time at home trying to keep up with their three children Josie (5), Ben (3) and Archie (2). Black Lab, Otis, pitches in where he can. Harrison enjoys time on the lake with family, golf, college football, the Green Bay Packers, hockey and time with friends.

JASON DIEHL

Jason was born and raised in Minnesota. He graduated from the University of Minnesota Duluth, majoring in Accounting with minors in Economics and Finance in 2010. He later went on to earn his CPA Certificate in 2014 and his MBA from Indiana University Kelley School of Business in 2019. Jason started his career at Cummins as a Staff Accountant. While working at Cummins, Jason held multiple Accounting/Finance roles with his last role as the Supply Chain Controller for Cummins Sales and Service.

Jason and his wife, Kristin, call Nashville, Tennessee, home and are very excited to be expecting their first child in Spring 2024. They recently adopted an Australian Shepard puppy, Truett, who is giving them some good practice as parents before their son arrives soon. Jason enjoys following America’s Team (the Dallas Cowboys), playing golf, fitness, skiing/snowboarding, and spending time with family and friends.
